You can divide today's wedding photography into two main categories

- Formal (traditional)

Film or digital?

More photographers are shooting digitally and digital technology becomes more and more popular each day. Film is a different medium and does not allow to see immediately any lighting or colour mistakes. Digital photos can be easily altered using a computer and can be shared with your family or friends instantly even if they are far away. Most of the photographers use a digital SLR but there are still old school photographers who still use film.

Wedding photography evolves all the time since invented by Joseph Nicephore Niepce in 19th Century. In the past wedding photography was limited to a studio only as photographer's equipment was very heavy and not really portable. As technology moves forward and cameras become smaller weddings can be captured more thoroughly and photos do not have to be so formal as they used to.

What can you get from your photographer?

There is no universal rule about contents of the package. Many photographers offer albums in their packages but some may charge you extra for it. Some may give you set of proofs to choose from and others may give you only a CD. You must be always sure what you get when you book your photographer. Most photographers offer re-prints to be purchased by their clients, families, friends. Many of them offer it online as most photos are shot digital.

How hard is it?

You may think that wedding photography is an easy job. Well.... it is not. Wedding is a one-time event and responsibility that rests on a wedding photographer is huge. It is also exhausting as photographer is moving constantly looking for the best shot opportunities.

As a wedding day is a one-time event, the wedding photographer must be alert and well prepared for the unexpected. Shooting a wedding is both exhausting and invigorating as the photographer is constantly looking for good angles and opportunities for candid shots. Some photographers employ assistants to help with carrying bags or taking photos in another places. So a few hours of constant pressure and attention is pretty hard.
